We've been engaged for six years now, yes six, because we can't afford even an intimate wedding. My husband-to-be and I are not getting any financial help from our parents like many couples do. Not to mention we are homeowners.
I strongly feel that people feel pressured by society into having ridiculously lavish weddings when in fact it's a complete waste of money. It's about spending a special day with your family and friends, not about a $3,000 wedding gown.
Maybe there should be some sort of payment plan for people who are on a strict budget. The cost is outrageous.
